30 weeks pregnant!

30 weeks pregnant
2nd baby
30 weeks pregnant! In the homestretch! Sort of..

I battled the sinus congestion last week, and ended up on an antibiotic for a sinus infection and double ear infection.  Ouch.  I just finished that yesterday and I'm still struggling, but I think it's allergies.  I typically have this problem this time of year where my body just can't keep up and I end up on prednisone for a week.  I am going back to the doctor this afternoon, so we shall see.  They haven't exactly been excited to give me anything (including the antibiotic) but I'm prepared to pitch a fit.. If this doesn't get taken care of, I'll just have another sinus infection.  I'm tired of not feeling well!

I went to my 2 hour class at the diabetes center last week and got everything I needed.  Can I just say being diabetic is expensive?  Not only were 6 weeks supply of strips for the meter $50 AFTER my insurance paid, but I had to go grocery shopping specifically for snacks and veggies and whatnot that I could actually choke down eat.  My wallet isn't exactly happy.

I had my routine 30 week appointment yesterday with my midwife and Halle is hanging out sideways in my belly.  I'm not worried though, Dawson took a while to turn head down.  Heck, I don't really even care if I get another vaginal birth.  I'm just so over being pregnant.  I know that sounds awful, but it's true.  She wasn't happy about my blood sugars the last week but the OB assisting her said they may be elevated because of my antibiotics.  I don't think so, just based on what I saw in relation to what I was eating, but I guess we will see.  I'll be continuing to test my blood sugar 4 times a day for the next week and then have a follow up.  If they still look bad, I'll have to be transferred to the OB practice.  So, for the next week, things are kind of up in the air.  I was also spilling a little protein into my urine yesterday, and that's never happened at another appointment.  Nothing to be alarmed about as far as she said.

Otherwise it's been a very uneventful week.  We spent the weekend at home for me to recover and Joe to relax.  Dawson has discovered Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow on his kindle and I think it's adorable.  I'm hoping to get a chair or something out front soon so we can play in the sun, even if I don't have much energy.

How far along? 30 weeks 2 days pregnant.. Baby is the size of a cucumber!  One of those English cucumbers I guess?

Weight gain? My weight at the midwife yesterday was a +13 pounds! Looks like I'm picking up the weight gain.   My scale says +11.

Belly button? Its going to pop out, any day now.

Wedding rings on or off? Still on! But having some swelling so I think I better take them off..

Movement? Tons of movement.  She's started kicking me in my cervix A LOT.  Makes me instantly grab myself like a little kid that needs to pee and bend over.  Instant reflex I guess, because it really doesn't help with the pain!

Maternity clothes? Yep.. Already growing out of a lot of them.  I really don't want to buy anything else though.

Symptoms? Feeling? Okay physically.  My rib is bothering me this week but nothing I can't handle.  My hips and the pelvic pressure are at an all time high right now, so that sucks.  My midwife offered physical therapy but to be honest, I can't handle any more appointments so I'll just deal.  I have people to help me and I'm trying to learn how to navigate some tasks differently.  I have no energy this week and I'm winded and dizzy at the drop of a hat.

Mood? Tired.  Did I mention tired?  Yet I know I'll be 100 times more tired when she's here.  A little weepy lately.  Sometimes for a reason, sometimes just because.  Therapy is next week and it can't come fast enough.

Missing? Exercise, real medications (Tylenol is a joke), junk food, and alcohol.

Looking forward to? Finally have an ultrasound scheduled for July 15th.  Also, Joe and I are trying to fudge some money to do the 3D ultrasound.. I think even if money has to come from savings we will do it because it was so special to us with Dawson.  There has to be some light in this pregnancy.  Oh! And we are doing some baby clothes shopping this weekend! Excited about that!

Sleep?  I don't even want to talk about sleep.  To say it sucks would be a huge understatement.

Exercise? No, none of that going on.  I took my fitbit off because I was feeling so awful, it seemed pointless.  I will put it back on when my dizziness and nasal congestion let up. (Same this week..)

Any cravings? Fruit, cake, icecream.. Anything I'm not supposed to have, really.

Food aversions? Fried foods.  Anything greasy pretty much.  Bacon, specifically.  Eggs, which is a bummer because they are a great source of protein and they keep my blood sugar down.  I'm attempting to get creative with them.

Until next week!

29 weeks!

Pregnancy pictures
29 weeks pregnant.. Not sure what's wrong with the color!

29 weeks! Just 11 or so weeks to go! I've been suffering with major nasal congestion the last week+ so I spared you my open mouth swollen face picture :) I skipped a picture and update last week because I was super busy and really didn't feel well.

We had a shower to celebrate baby girl on Saturday and I had a great time.  It was so great to see everyone and we got some great stuff! Thank you to everyone who came- I know there was a lot of traveling involved!  Unfortunately none of the pictures I took turned out at all.. I really wasn't focused on picture taking, just enjoying myself.

We have been going back and forth about baby girl's name for a couple of months and still haven't determined what her middle name will be.  Her first name will be Halle.  Pronounced like Halle Berry.

I never thought a middle name would be so difficult but it has proven to be tough to figure out.  When we named Dawson, we chose his middle name before his first name.  Dawson's middle name is Theon, after Joe's grandpa.  This time we decided we would use a name from my side of the family.  We narrowed it down to May or Noreen.  Joe likes May and I like Noreen.  It's not looking like it will be either one because we can't agree.  I finally put my finger on why I don't like May- it reminds me of Ellie May from The Beverly Hillbillies.  Halle May is just too close to that, too southern for me.  Joe says Noreen reminds him of Eleanor and he's NOT crazy about that.  So it looks like we may just be sitting on that for a while, or sadly, she may not end up with a family name at all.  I guess we have some time to sort it out.  Please, I know her name may not be your style, but try to be respectful that this is what we have chosen for our baby!

Today I go to the diabetes center and take a 2 hour class and get my glucose meter.  I'll be testing my blood sugar for a week, 4 times a day.  I am pretty sure my nasal congestion has turned into a sinus infection (complete with dizziness and head ache- yay! I really should call and bug my midwife again but I keep getting blown off..) so I'm not looking forward to sitting through a 2 hour class, but I just need to get it over with.  The OB assisting my midwife wants me to test my blood sugar for 2 weeks, and then if everything looks okay, test twice daily until I deliver.  Say what? If I pass, why would I need to do that? I refused.  If things don't look good, we will go from there.  They wouldn't ask someone who passes the blood glucose tolerance test with the yucky drink to do that, so I don't see why this should be any different.  I'm a little miffed about it, but ultimately they can't make me do anything at all.

How far along? 29 weeks pregnant.. Baby is the size of a butternut squash!

Weight gain? My weight at the midwife last week was a +8 pounds still.  No change on my scale as of today either.

Belly button? Still looking extremely flat and deformed.  (No change there)

Wedding rings on or off? Still on!

Movement? Lots of movement.  I'm curious to see what position she's in, because she kicks me on my right side mostly.  Or maybe she's punching? I don't know.  It's hard to tell because she rolls around so much.

Maternity clothes? Yep.. Although it seems I've reached a point of "I don't care" at least at home because I have been wearing my pre-pregnancy t-shirts from Hawaii and just letting it hang out.  Classy, right?

Symptoms? Feeling? Well, I feel awful but I think that's more related to my sinus issues.  My midwife suggested I buy a support belt for my grinding and clicking in my hips.  Boy, was that a mistake.  It only took about 30 minutes before it hurt so bad I had to take it off.  It seemed to make my symptoms 100 times worse.  Glad I only spent $15 on it.  I'm on Prilosec now for the reflux symptoms and that seems to be working well.  Rib pain has been off and on, but at least it's intermittent.  With Dawson I managed to make it through the entire pregnancy with no stretch marks at all (don't hate me ladies, they showed up about 3-4 days postpartum) but this time it seems I'm not so lucky.  I can see 2 pretty good sized ones down low.  I actually thought I would be upset, but I don't care.  They are worth it, and carrying a baby is no joke.  If I make it out with just a few (or a lot) of stretch marks, I'm okay with that.

Mood? Cranky still.  No patience.  Tired of being tired, tired of feeling like crap.  I got a lot of stuff done, but I feel like there's a lot more to do.  (As I sit here blogging..)

Missing? This week I really miss exercise.  And sitting down without judging whether or not the surface is going to kill me.  I miss not worrying about what I'm eating, how much I'm drinking, etc.

Looking forward to? Funny, I was looking forward to scheduling the ultrasound last time I wrote this, but they have backed that up yet again.  Now it's looking like 34ish weeks before we will do that.  Now I'm just looking forward to holding her.

Sleep?  I'll sleep when I'm dead, I guess.  I have a feeling I will be able to say this for the next few years at least.  Can't breathe, can't get comfortable, can't relax, Dawson won't go to sleep.  It's always something.

Exercise? No, none of that going on.  I took my fitbit off because I was feeling so awful, it seemed pointless.  I will put it back on when my dizziness and nasal congestion let up.

Any cravings? Fruit! Also, the cake from the shower was delicious.  No other cravings really.

Food aversions? Fried foods.  Anything greasy pretty much.  Bacon, specifically.  Eggs, which is a bummer because they are a great source of protein.

27 weeks and counting!

bump picture

After looking at this photo, I think it's safe to say I probably shouldn't wear that shirt in public again.  Also this was the first time I've seen myself up close in a full length mirror in a while.  Feeling HUGE, and yet I know I'll get much bigger.  I cut my legs out of this picture, and even as I write this I'm contemplating my head as well.  Just not feeling the pregnancy glow this time.

We have a cold this week, but thus far I seem to have it to a lesser degree than Dawson, my mom, sister, or Joe.  Still, I am tired.  In fact, I feel like I complain that I'm tired all the time.  Dawson has been up a lot in the night, both from being in a new room (pics and post on this soon, not quite done!) and from feeling yucky.  Him and his Auntie seem to have gotten this crud the worst.

There isn't really a lot to tell from the last week! We have mostly stuck close to home.  I'm having one of those weeks where if it can go wrong, it does.  They are little things, but I'm noticing my patience for it is zilch.  I've been ready for bed at 7pm all week just for the simple reason that if I go to bed, I can't spill or break anything or find some disaster that needs fixing (like the open juice that poured all over the fridge earlier this week, without me noticing for a day or two.. Awesome!)

This weekend I'm hoping to get the nursery finished up.. Things that still need to be done:
  • Pick out paint
  • Paint the wall
  • Refinish an old ikea table (there will be a DIY post on this if it turns out well!)
  • Assemble and "dress" the crib
  • Hang the new curtains
  • Find and hang artwork
  • Find a blanket or quilt for the chair
The list actually looks longer than it is.  We will see what we can knock out this weekend!

How far along? 27 weeks 3 days pregnant.. Baby is the size of a head of rutabaga!

Weight gain? Weighed myself this morning and according to my scale, I'm up 8 pounds total!

Belly button? Still looking extremely flat and deformed.

Wedding rings on or off? Still on.

Movement? I think I was right about the growth spurt last weekend.  She's out of control in there and actually hurting me at times.  This didn't happen until much later with Dawson.  I don't remember him doing a lot of body rolling like she does, he was more into sticking his feet up in my ribs and pushing his butt out as far as he could.  I walked around with a lopsided belly A LOT that last trimester.

Maternity clothes? Yep.. Looks like I need to retire some of them already though.  I need to just stock up on dresses for summer and stop trying I think.  I already feel like I look gigantic anyway.

Symptoms? Feeling? Big..  Tired.  Hips are killing me.  Rib pain has been haunting me this week again too.  Oh, and I would like to burn my bras.  Just saying.

Mood? The crankiness is off the charts.  My patience is thin.  It reminds me of when Dawson was a baby.. Not a good feeling.  I'm having a lot of manic episodes and over-doing it physically, still.  Trying to take it easy this week though.  I just need to keep chanting "It will all get done, it will all get done.."

Missing? Alcohol.  Oh, and alcohol.  Did I mention alcohol? Yeah.  I bought a bottle of cheap moscato this week and I'll be mixing it with sparkling water so I can at least enjoy a little bit.  Judge away.  I'm also really missing running.  I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to be able to squeeze my run in with 2 kids.  I still haven't figured it out.

Looking forward to? Scheduling the ultrasound next week to make sure baby girl is doing well.  And of course the shower- only a week or so away!

Sleep?  I'll sleep when I'm dead, I guess.  Between my hips, my neck, my nose (allergies) and Dawson, I'm not getting a lot of sleep.  (This is the same as it was last week.. Ugh)

Exercise? Does cooking count? I've spent a lot of time on my feet in the kitchen.  Also, Memorial Day I got over 5000 steps according to my fitbit.  I was a cleaning, organizing, moving machine.  I paid for it.

Any cravings? Baked goods.  Fresh fruit.  Candy bars, although I have only given into this craving once.  Alcohol, as stated above.  It feels good to actually want to eat again.

Food aversions? Steak looks like yuck this week.  Fried foods.  Anything greasy pretty much.

 Until next week!

Pregnancy sucks.

And it's awesome all at the same time.  This week though, it sucks.  There, I said it.

Thursday morning sickness hit me like a truck.  I managed to eat throughout the day and drink some Gatorade.   Zofran (anti nausea medication) is a complete joke this time around.

Friday morning I took a tumble down our stairs.  I'm okay, but pregnancy sure did throw a wrench in the healing process.  I called my midwife's office and they told me to go to urgent care or my primary care provider.  I was a little panicked so I called Dawson's doctor's office (he goes to a family practice) and asked if they could see me on short notice.  They did, but they weren't so helpful.  They told me to take Tylenol, ice it, and stretch.

I managed through the weekend with Joe's help.  Did I mention this is all at the tail end of Joe having the flu for 4 days? Yeah.  Poor guy goes from that to his wife throwing up, not cooking, and falling down the stairs and calling him all emergency style at his work.

Monday I was still not doing well.  I was in a lot of pain (understatement of the century) so I called my midwife's office again and this time they sent me to the ER because the nurse was fairly certain with all the throwing up and struggling to drink, I probably would need fluids as well as something for the pain. Awesome! Monday night was spent in the ER.  Many of you who know me know that I HATE having an IV with a passion.  A couple of years ago my anxiety would have kept me at home denying the fact that I needed anything.  I did it though.  I felt like this was a pretty big accomplishment for me, as silly as that sounds.

Tomorrow is my intake appointment (a class on dos and don'ts) and blood work at my midwife's office.. Even though I was just there yesterday.   Joe is going with me.  Then my next appointment will be on the 23rd, when we get to see baby for the first time.. I also have anxiety about that, but that's another post.  I'm not going to lie, I am not looking forward to tomorrow.   I don't like having blood taken, although I do survive each time.  I am one of those people that struggles to not pass out afterwards and during. The first blood draw for pregnancy just flat sucks.  They take quite a bit of blood.  I'm trying not to psych myself out about it.  Joe will be there to hold my hand and it will be over semi quickly.

I'm still pretty sore almost a week after my fall, but I am learning to work around things.  I just can't do everything right now.   I feel like this is early training for what it will be like when I'm much larger and having to take care of Dawson.  I'm learning to get creative :) help from Grandma K sure does help too!

There's the update :)

Flu shot or not?

Yesterday was a wasted day taking my car in.. I have to take it back next week.  They wanted to keep it a couple of days and give me a honda cr-z for a rental car, because that's totally car seat friendly.  (Insert eye roll here)

Anyway Dawson and Grandma K were at Kohl's scoping toys out while I got an estimate for body damage.  $1044.68.  Thankfully State Farm will be taking care of that bill.  After we left there we decided to get some lunch at Red Robin.  Dawson was just really snotty and his cough sounded worse so I made him an appointment for this morning with his doctor.  The poor kid has been sick more on than off for 6 weeks.  Sure enough he has a sinus infection.  Poor little guy.  Grandma bought him this cool new toy and that sure made him happy.

I was going to ask about a flu shot but forgot.  I haven't gotten one since I was pregnant with him but I rarely get sick.  Dawson had one last year but not yet this year.  I'm trying to decide whether or not to get it for him.

How do you feel about the flu shot? Worth it or no?

Monday, November 4, 2013

Yep, feels like Monday

Joe just left for 3 days for work.  Dawson is sick as a dog.  My house is a disaster.  All I can say is thank goodness for Grandma K.  She will be here this afternoon and that always seems to perk Dawson up a little.  Oh, and I haven't managed to get coffee yet because Dawson is glued to me.  When does Grandma get here again? Ha!

Tomorrow my minivan goes in for repair.  I wish I could say it was going in for the dent my neighbor put in it but no, that's not it.  Instead it's for a bunch of lights coming on & screwing up my gas mileage.  Sometimes I think technology is a curse.  The front collision warning light, vehicle stability control, and lane departure warning lights keep coming on.  Sadly this started happening with only 800 miles on it.  To top it off, one month to the day after I bought it, my neighbor smashed it up.   First world problems, I know, but I hadn't even made the first (outrageous) payment yet.  Now I just have to convince State Farm that the value has been diminished because it has been in an accident.  All of this is just such a hassle.  I wish she had hit my old car.

Okay seriously.. I have to get coffee..

I live such an exciting life

Here I sit on a Sunday afternoon while Dawson sleeps.  He caught some kind of nasty cold and the poor kid can't seem to get enough sleep.

Anyway, Joe and I had our satellite tv suspended to try out huluplus, Netflix, and amazon prime streaming about a month ago.  So far no regrets! We have been spending evenings and nap time when possible, watching Revolution on netflix.  Now I have to say I would so NOT watch this show if I had to wait week to week for a new episode.  On Netflix it's even better than having tv shows recorded on the DVR.  I am sold! Our satellite tv used to cost around $150 a month with showtime and when we bought my awesome new car (mommy chic.. The minivan) we decided to cut some costs that just really aren't needed.  Needless to say, tv was the first to change.

Anyway, Revolution reminds me a little of Fringe but more on the this-could-really-happen line of things.  It's about the DoD releasing something that causes the power to go out.  15 years later the United States no longer exhists and there's war.  It doesn't take long to get to the point but there are a lot of flashbacks and you find yourself thinking "why is this important?" It might take several episodes to figure that out.  Hence why I say I wouldn't watch if it wasn't on Netflix.

Here is the link to NBC for more info Revolution.  Check it out!

I feel sort of lame that this is what Sundays have become but I love my little family.  Sometimes I don't even know what we did before Dawson.
